About the Artist
Ginger Hobbs is a contemporary and classical dancer whose work merges rigorous technique with expressive storytelling. She holds a Bachelor of Contemporary Dance from Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and has performed in works by choreographers including Nadav Zelner and Luca Signoretti, as well as with the Sydney Choreographic Ensemble and the Australian Ballet.
Her experience spans international touring, major festivals such as Tanzfest Luzern, residencies, competitions, and the creation of original works such as The Court' Corners of a Room. She is drawn to interdisciplinary collaboration and has performed in durational installations such as Feminist Semiotics by Jess Pickering, as well as in music video projects including Dynamite by artist Jamila.
My work is rooted in movement and shaped by an interest in how the body can reflect internal states — how emotion, memory, and sensation become visible through physical expression. I often explore themes connected to the human condition, using dance as a way to physicalise what’s felt but not always seen.
Working across contemporary dance, classical technique, film, and installation, I create and participate in works that explore the complexity of the human condition. Whether performing in durational settings, cinematic frames, or on stage, I approach movement as a visceral language — one that can hold vulnerability, resistance, humour, and catharsis.
Collaboration is integral to my process. I’m drawn to projects that blur mediums and disciplines, that challenge the function of choreography, and that allow emotional and spatial tensions to emerge and unfold. My recent work spans music video, solo performance, and feminist installation, and continues to evolve through experimentation, rigor, and deep curiosity.
